BoB Is Your Friend

20220426 BoB Is Your Friend

Spring has sprung, and the clock is ticking for Floods, Hurricanes, Tornadoes, and Wildfires.

In evacuation situations, your Bug Out Bag, or “BoB,” is your friend. It’s important to consider what you’ll need to make it through a few days away from home and how much weight you can carry. So your Bug Out Bag (Bob) should include plenty of supplies for yourself and any family members or pets in tow.

Here are some primary considerations when packing your BoB:

-Shelter: A tent, tarp, or other means of keeping yourself protected from the elements.

-Water: A water filter or purification tablets and enough water to last a few days.

-Food: Non-perishable food items that will give you the energy you need to survive.

-Sanitation: Toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and other essentials to maintain personal hygiene.

My friend Carson @ rent.com has compiled an article on how to prepare your Bug-out-Bag. An entertaining and educational read. You can find it here: https://www.rent.com/blog/how-to-pack-a-go-bag/

BoB is not intended to be carried long distances. The Bug-out bags purpose is to sustain an individual for a minimum of 72 hours until help arrives, or they can find refuge.

Cautionary note: Your BoB should not weigh more than 25-30 lbs. Depending on your age, weight, health, and ability your BoB may need to weigh less. An overweight BoB may cause injury and impede your ability to cover the terrain.
