Day Six of the 12 Days of Christmas Risk
Today is day six of the 12 days of Christmas my gifts for you today is risk.
You were at risk from the day you were born, you’re at risk when he got out of bed this morning when you drove to work and when you ate that bagel this morning.
From the day you were born the world has been trying to kill you.
As a leader we need to embrace risk we need to accept risks.
“Risking is woven into the fabric of every significant vision throughout history. It requires the ability to transcend fear to operate at full capacity without having any answers or guarantees towards results. For leaders risking is being vulnerable to their vision and their commitment, which will expose them to criticism, disapproval. and even failure. Although fear is a pervasive and powerful motivator, leaders are completely willing to give up that comfort zone and face their fears head-on. The relationship with fear is unique in that leaders use fear as motivation, challenge, and most of all an opportunity, They see value in taking risks and experiencing all of the emotions that go with risking. Because they understand that to achieve the truly extraordinary visions they must go where no one else has gone before.
-Mastering Leadership by Michael Strasner”
We talked about the levels of leadership, you know you’re in the leadership position because of your position.
We talk about the permission part, where you start conversations and get to know people. You are given permission to lead these people because they start believing in you.
That was a risk to step up and have a conversation. And we discussed the production level of leadership where something is getting accomplished.
We need to step up and away from our comfort zone to be a leader of any significance.
I agree that trying to be perfect has never got accomplished anything valuable.
“A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week.”
– George Patton
People fall into three categories when it comes to accomplishing something great.
- They don’t know how to do it
- They are afraid.
- They want permission.
Which one are you?
The world gave you permission the day you were born.
Till next time
