Winter Fire Safety

Wildfire

With winter in full swing temperatures have been dropping.

The coldest season of the year in polar and temperate zones.  Most of the tropics seem to avoid it though.

As you probably know I live in Florida. Sub-Tropics warm all year round. Except when it’s not. The temperature drops below 60° and I get all whiney. Out come the sweaters and jackets. And the one, lone, nearly forgotten covered in dust, floor heater that plugs into the wall jack.

Ahhhh, toasty toes.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, electrical malfunctions are the second leading cause of residential fires in the U.S. http://bit.ly/2LTPqfA

My friends over at SaveOnEnergy have a great article on Understanding your outlets to avoid a house fire by Terri Williams: https://www.saveonenergy.com/learning-center/post/understanding-outlets-avoid-house-fire/

Recommended reading.

The Holiday Fire Season is over and Winter is not.

If you have not already done so, now is a great time to engage your family, especially your children in fire safety.

Download and review the Home Fire Safety Checklist: https://bit.ly/37YZag6

And the Home-Fire-Escape-Plan: https://bit.ly/35KcC7k

A great way to get your children involved and they will probably draw a much better escape map than I did.

The number one preventable disaster is a House Fire.

House fires cause more damage and death every year than all Natural Disasters combined. https://www.nfpa.org/News-and-Research/Data-research-and-tools/Building-and-Life-Safety/Home-Structure-Fires

Lets prevent that from happening and keep our children safe.

Till next time
