The word of the week for June 20, 2022, is scheduling.
One of the greatest stories I hear from people about why they are incapable of putting a plan together to protect themselves, their family, and their loved ones is: I do not have the time.
Now one thing is certain, we all have 24 hours in a day.
Some of you might not know this, but up until last Friday, I had a 40-hour-a-week job that I’ve been working for the previous nine years, and that 40 hours a week was always my excuse why I did not have enough time to accomplish those things that I feel I need to achieve in my life.
I retired from that job, my last day at work was last Friday, and I no longer have the 40-hour-a-week job as an excuse not to move forward.
For me to use my time constructively, I need to schedule my time.
As a Senior Drill Sergeant, we scheduled every minute of the day for our training. From the moment our soldiers woke up to when they went to bed. We knew what we were doing and when to do it.
All successful people have learned to schedule their time. So now that I no longer have a 40-hour work week, those eight-hour days are being rescheduled.
But here comes a vital issue in scheduling. I will only need to schedule those things that must be completed immediately.
We often have many things we would like to do, many things we are working towards. But unfortunately, some of those things waste our time and accomplish nothing except fulfilling our need to imagine that we have done something.
Here’s a little trick I learned from somebody else, and I will share it with you.
To help you find out the most important thing you need to do now. Pull out a piece of paper and start writing on it everything you want, want to do, want to have, and want to be.
Once you complete this list, you will categorize each item in a Priority category big P as in Planning, Perseverance, Productivity Popsicle’s.
P1 items are the things you need to do now.
P2 items can be done within 5 to 14 days.
P3 items that can be done in 14 days or longer.
Once you have identified your P 1’s, start scheduling them on your daily planner.
Yes, it is that simple.
If you fail to complete one of your daily P1’s. Make a note of what hindered you from achieving something you have decided needs to be done immediately.
Adjust, and keep moving forward.
